Word of the Day: God turns the storm into a gentle breeze

Have you ever found yourself on a boat in the middle of a storm? It's a terrible feeling of helplessness. You don't know what to do and you can't find a place to escape. Wherever you go, the boat moves and it's hard to stand. All that's left is to wait for the calm to come.

28 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
and he brought them out of their distress.
29 He stilled the storm to a whisper;
the waves of the sea were hushed.
Psalm 107:28-29

Throughout our lives, we go through many storms. Some are small, like missing someone you love who has moved to another city. Others are big storms that trigger fear and a great sense of helplessness. Cry out to the Lord in these moments! He hasn't forgotten about you. Trust, and persevere in Him, and you will see how He comes to your aid, turning the storm into a gentle breeze.

We should remember that Jesus encountered a very real storm in The New Testament:

38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

Mark 4:38-40

This story of Jesus calming the storm is a reminder that when we face trials and challenges we should place our trust in Jesus and persevere in our faith. When we do this we will find sufficient peace and strength to overcome even the tallest obstacles. Just as Jesus calmed the storm for his disciples, he will come to our aid, bringing calmness and reassurance to our lives when we trust in him with all our hearts.

Word of the Day: Overcome the giants in your life with Jesus

Some challenges seem too big, and some enemies too impossible to defeat. And if we depend on our own strength, it's true! But when facing the giant Goliath, David knew he wasn't fighting alone. His strength was in God.

45 David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”
1 Samuel 17:45 and 47

David's strength came from the Lord God Almighty. David trusted that God would work and faced Goliath full of this confidence. Not only that, he didn't seek recognition or his own glory, but rather sought for God to be glorified through his actions.

Examine your heart today: how do you face the giants in your life? Do you do it with your own strength or do you go to God for him to fight for you? Do you trust that you will see the power of God in action and wait on him?

In the toughest moments, when it seems there's no way out, remember that you can always trust in God. He gives you the strength to overcome life's gigantic obstacles. Defeat the giants in your life with Jesus and for his glory!

Put your trust in God and you will overcome the giants!

Day Before Yesterday's Word

Word of the Day: simply trust in God

The Israelites were terrified! They were fighting the Philistines, and their army was being led by a giant. Goliath, who was a champion within the ranks of the Philistines, challenged the Israelites to send out their champion to fight him. No one was brave enough to do so, except for one young shepherd boy by the name of David. He was filled with faith in God and volunteered to face Goliath.

Despite being vastly outnumbered and facing a formidable opponent, David approaches Goliath armed only with a sling and five smooth stones. Goliath mocks him, but David declares his trust in God

"David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied."
1 Samuel 17:45

With unwavering trust in God's strength and protection, David slung a stone at Goliath, striking him in the forehead and defeating him. This miraculous victory showcases the power of trusting in God even in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. David's faith and courage inspire us to trust in God's guidance and provision in our own lives, knowing that with God, all things are possible.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust
in the name of the Lord our God.
Psalms 20:7

We live in a material world of cars, money, and beauty, but all of these things must come to an end. Trusting in these things takes us a step further away from God and the life he has in store for us. But those who trust in God have their feet firmly on the Rock. Remember the story Jesus told of the man who built his life upon the rock, that man was ready to face the day-to-day challenges and struggles.

Today is a good day to ask yourself the question: who do I put my trust in? Everything but God will crumble away, but the Word of God will remain forever. Simply trust in the Lord, our God!
