Today's Word
Word of the Day: What if today was your last day?
Would you be ready to meet God face-to-face tomorrow? Perhaps that's a scary thought! Or something you have never thought about before. But it is important to be prepared. Jesus tells a story about being prepared for his return:
The Parable of the Ten Virgins
25 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. 4 The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
Matthew 25:1-5
In the passage the wise virgins were prepared for the long wait, they had taken enough oil to last for the evening, but the foolish virgins had not... They were unprepared and suffered the consequences:
6 “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’
7 “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’
9 “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’
12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’
Matthew 25:6-12
The Bible says if you repent of your sins and dedicate your life to following Jesus, there's no need to fear! You are prepared for the time when God will come and judge the living and the dead. When it's time to give an account, Jesus will purify all who have been faithful to Him.
But for those who are not prepared, who have not repented of their sins and dedicated their lives to Jesus, the situation is dire. In the story, Jesus says to the foolish virgins "Truly I tell you, I don't know you", in the end, nothing else mattered, not their wealth, status, or possessions. They had no relationship with Jesus, so they were locked out of the banquet. Make things right with God today, while you still have time.
Live for Jesus and receive the hope of Heaven!

Word of the Day: God has open arms, God wants to forgive you.
God wants to forgive you! Perhaps you're feeling distant, far from God, because you've done something wrong and your conscience weighs heavily on you.
20 So he got up and went to his father.
“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.
21 “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.
This story of The Prodigal (or 'Lost') Son shows how much God loves and forgives us. In the story, a young man asks his dad for his share of the money which he then goes and spends foolishly. When he has nothing left, he returns home, feeling truly sorry. Although he anticipates working for his dad what happens is that his dad welcomes him back with open arms and throws a big party.
No matter how far we wander from Him, or how many mistakes we make, God is always ready to forgive us when we decide to come back to Him. God is filled with compassion. God runs out to us, hugs us, and shows us His endless love and mercy.
It's true, sin is a trap that sometimes catches us in stubbornness and pride. But do you want to return to God's arms? The truth is, He is eager to forgive you! Just approach God knowing that you have done wrong - knowing, like the prodigal son, that you are ' no longer worthy to be called [...] son', - and God's grace will sustain you. Or, as it says in the Methodist Holy Communion Service: "Lord, we come to your table, trusting in your mercy and not in any goodness of our own. We are not worthy even to gather up the crumbs under your table, but it is your nature always to have mercy, and on that we depend."
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9
He is faithful and He is just. He will forgive you. Don't wait any longer! Are you ready to depend on Him?
