Word of the Day: Tired? Learn to Rest in God

Who has never felt overwhelmed with so much work? The long hours at work or school, the endless household chores, so many people demanding attention and help... There's no time to rest!

In the hustle and bustle of life, it's easy to forget about God. He is by your side, waiting for you to take a moment to say, "God, can you help me with all of this? I can't do it alone."

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
-- Matthew 11:28

God wants to give you rest. In Psalm 23 God is referred to as The Good Shepherd, leading his flock to rest by calm waters. His rest is restorative, he refreshes the souls of those who follow when he leads.

1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.

Psalm 23: 1-3

So, in his comfort, there is restoration and renewal. You don't have to do everything alone. Have you taken a few minutes today to rest in God?

Word of the Day: Flee temptation!

“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Matthew 26:41

Among his many works, C.S. Lewis wrote an interesting book titled The Screwtape Letters. In it, our attention is drawn to the many and varied schemes of the Devil in tempting God's children. At one point Screwtape, a demon, writes to his nephew, 'Junior Temper' Wormwood: "I have great hopes that we shall learn in due time how to emotionalize and mythologize their science to such an extent that what is, in effect, a belief in us (though not under that name) will creep in while the human mind remains closed to belief in the Enemy."

We must not forget that the Enemy of God is cunning, hates us, and wants to destroy us. He will constantly navigate us towards sin in creative and ingenious ways. That's where the danger lies...

That's why it's so important not to let our guard down! Evaluate your own life, and notice which areas are more inclined to give in to sin. Watch over them and pray, calling upon the Lord for help!

When temptation is strong, the Bible's advice is to flee. Recognizing your weakness and getting out of a dangerous situation is not a reason for shame - it's evidence of being wise. This is especially true for sexual temptation and other very strong temptations. Avoid situations where you know you will be tempted. Submit to God; He will help you overcome your struggle against sin.

Flee from the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

- 2 Timothy 2:22

Word of the Day: The essential ingredient for an unbreakable marriage

Love. This is the essential element for a marriage not to be destroyed. But what does it mean to love? Love is different from passion, which is a fleeting feeling. To love is the decision we make every day to dedicate ourselves to the well-being of others.

And well-being, or what is best for the spouse, involves understanding, sacrifice, forgiveness, and commitment on our part. This is the nature of biblical love, which many nowadays are unfamiliar with.

⁷ Beloved, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God.
Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
⁸ Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
¹⁰ This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

1 John 4:7-8 and 10

Most people project onto marriage the dream of perfect love that they will only find in Jesus Christ. That's why they get frustrated and can't carry forward the marriage commitment because they base it on fragile and selfish foundations. When getting married, a Christian needs to remember they are entering into a covenant with a sinner, loved by God.

This person, so admired, will certainly fail, to a greater or lesser extent. But even so, they remain someone for whom Christ proved His love on the cross. For this reason, you should also love, empathize, forgive, and encourage to become more like Christ.

Who gives us the strength to love, despite adversities? Jesus!
