A daily devotional to strengthen your relationship with God.
Today's Devotional
Resisting temptation
Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
Mark 14:38
It's truly liberating when we learn to say no to temptation. Jesus issued an important warning to His disciples: watch and pray! Being watchful means not losing focus. It involves careful observation, staying alert, and exercising caution against all surrounding dangers. Prayer acts as a weapon to both attack and defend against this constant threat. When we pray continually, we stay connected to God, receiving from Him the strength to overcome the evil one and our own sinful desires.
Always monitor and examine your heart. Know your weaknesses and seek strength in God. It's not worth putting yourself in situations where you know you'll likely stumble. Samson tested these limits, yielded to desires, and adopted a reprehensible lifestyle. Unfortunately, he paid dearly for it, becoming a slave to his enemies. Indeed, Jesus can set you free! Obey His teachings to steer clear of temptation.
Learn to resist!
- Watch over your life! Observe if there are any doors (or loopholes) through which temptation enters. Close them right away!
- Pray without ceasing! A life of constant prayer is the key to resisting and rejecting evil desires and sins.
- Cut off bad habits! You know which areas you're most vulnerable and weak in. Flee from sin!
- Seek guidance and wisdom from God. Consider taking decisive actions such as rejecting corruption, addressing imbalances, curbing excesses, forsaking dishonest gains, ending harmful relationships, blocking access to pornographic sites, distancing yourself from friends who promote reprehensible behavior, and breaking free from vices.
- Talk to someone mature in faith (a pastor or mentor) about your difficulties and struggles in this area. Ask for prayer support.
- Follow James 4:7's recommendation: obey and submit to God. Resist the Devil, and he will flee from you.
Let's Pray:
Lord God, help me overcome my weaknesses. Forgive me for giving in to so many things that displease You, and help me improve, Father! Purify my mind, my eyes, and my heart! There are so many things I need to let go of. Teach me Your perfect way in Jesus Christ, so that I may become more like Him. Assist me in remaining vigilant and in prayer each day! And may I not succumb to temptation, in Jesus' name! Amen!
Yesterday's Devotional
Learning to fear the Lord
It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees
- Deuteronomy 17:19
In the time of Moses, and for many years afterwards, most people did not have access to God's Laws. Only the priests of the temple and the king of Israel had the right to access them. And although it was the priests' job to read the Law to the people, this was only done at specific times, and having the scripture to read freely was a massive luxury.
In Deuteronomy 17, Moses is giving instructions to the Kings of that time. He says they should have their own copy of the scriptures to read every day, so they can learn to fear the Lord and be able to fulfill his commandments. Moses knew the value of possessing the Scriptures at that time, and the guidance it could provide to its readers.
Today we live in different times. Everyone has the Bible or has easy access to it, and yet it is so easy for us to take this for granted. Try to diligently read the Scriptures and see what it can teach you - to fear the Lord, to fulfill His commandments, to be faithful to God. Don't waste any more time!.. dedicate yourself to the Holy Scriptures today.
Open the book and read on!
- Yes our routine can be very busy, but try to find time to read the Bible, even if it's only five minutes.
- Reading the Scriptures is not a burden, it's a privilege and pleasure.
- Maybe you have time this weekend? Make a new routine, get reading, and find out more about your God!
Pray:
Lord God, I thank you Father for the gift and honour of having the Scriptures. I thank you for revealing yourself to us, for introducing yourself to me through the Bible. Help me to read it with discipline and consistency, so that I may know you and fear you with all my being. I ask this in Jesus' name. Amen!
Day Before Yesterday's Devotional
Grace for every day
Give us today our daily bread.
Matthew 6:11
Have you ever thanked God for your daily sustenance? Then don't miss this opportunity! The Lord has enough for you to meet your daily needs. So don't worry about what you'll need in the coming days, that will only make you anxious and restless... Just ask God for what you need today. He knows, hears, and gives grace with each new day. His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23).
The people of Israel experienced what it was like to live trusting in God every day. As they walked in the desert, the Lord supplied their needs every day with manna from heaven, water, light, and warmth on cold nights and a cloud that provided cool shade for the days in the scorching desert. Try living by faith too, one day at a time! Entrust your life to God every day and see that God's grace is enough for you.
Experience God's grace this day!
- Don't be anxious about tomorrow. Offer up your needs to God this day in prayer.
- Trust in the Lord's provision! He doesn't forget but takes care of you every day.
- God has not promised you riches in this world, but he gives you enough for your daily provision.
- Seek to know God better by reading and studying the Bible: "Man shall not live on bread alone, (material) but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. (spiritual bread)" - Matthew 4:4.
- Be grateful on a daily basis for everything the Lord has done for you.
- Talk to someone today about what God has graciously given you.
Pray:
Lord, thank you so much for our daily bread. Grant me today too, by your grace, the sustenance I need for this day. Help me to trust that you will provide according to my needs. Don't let me be anxious or worried about tomorrow, because everything belongs to the Lord. May circumstances not prevent me from seeing your care day by day in my life, in Jesus' name. Amen!
What is the Daily Devotional
The Daily Devotional is a special moment of your day that you dedicate to having a precious time of intimacy with God. It is very simple to establish an exciting routine of discovery and spiritual growth. You will achieve this by setting aside a moment each day to draw near to the Lord. During the Devotional, you will read a Bible verse with a meditation on the text. Then, you will meditate on the teachings and how to apply them in your life. In the end, you can pray.
How to do your Daily Devotional
Here are some tips for making the most of reading the Bible message during the Daily Devotional:
- Set aside a moment and choose a specific place: your devotional time will be more beneficial if you set aside the hustle and bustle and invest in a pleasant time alone with God.
- Read the verse or Bible passage attentively: develop a lifestyle committed to the Word of God every day and avoid distractions.
- Read the daily meditation: reflect and try to understand God's purpose for your life through the comments.
- Practical application: jot down your findings and don't forget to put into practice everything you have learned through the Bible.
- Share what you learned: try to share with people around what God has been teaching you in your moments of daily devotion as you go about your daily conversations and interactions.
Don't forget the importance of living a life fully committed to the Word of God!
