Today's Devotional

Freedom vs. Libertarianism

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.
Galatians 5:13

When we accept Christ, we free ourselves from the oppressive shackles of sin. There's nothing better than feeling free and recognizing the price that was paid for our freedom: the blood of Jesus. Our freedom is the fruit of God's love for us!

To stay free, you need to remember the price of Salvation and be aware of the Devil's traps. Even Jesus was tempted by Satan to use his freedom to disobey the Father. Our freedom must bring us closer to God, not push us away as happened with the Devil.

Remaining obedient to God's Word is the secret to staying free from sin. Freedom is not about "walking wherever you want" but knowing that there are places where we can lose our freedom. One of the Devil's main traps is to induce our freedom into libertinism.

Libertinism is the misuse of freedom. When we extrapolate our freedom, we give way to the desires of the flesh. The result of this lack of self-control is falling into sin. When our actions lead us away from God, it is a sign that we have already lost our freedom and are falling into the trap of debauchery.

So always keep God's word as your "GPS" and use your freedom to dedicate yourself even more to God!

Be free!

  • Use your freedom to seek God. Praise him, worship him!
  • Our freedom came at a high price. Read the Gospel and learn more about Jesus.
  • Use your freedom to set other people free. Proclaim the Good News of the Lord, share the Word that sets man free from sin.
  • Read God's Word and be aware of the pitfalls of licentiousness.

Pray:

Lord Jesus, how good it is to be free to worship you! Thank you so much for everything you've done for me, your blood has reached me. I want to remain free to praise You and proclaim Your Word that sets me free. In Jesus' name, amen!

Yesterday's Devotional

The poor can't repay you, but God will!

"35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me."
- Matthew 25:35-36

Caring for the needy is a direct expression of love for the Lord. This biblical passage helps us to understand that when we help people who are excluded and in need, we are doing it for God himself. Like any human being, the needy have a dignity that comes from the heavenly Father.

Christ identifies with the most vulnerable. And we can all serve Christ better when we do this for our brothers and sisters. Practical beneficence, sincere charity and noble love for the most needy are clear evidence of devotion, love and service to the Lord. Therefore, we need to love them and help them, as if we were taking care of the Lord himself.

Help those in need!

  • Pray and ask God for a kind and willing heart.
  • Help according to your means, with liberality and wisdom. With God, little becomes much. Read on: Matthew 25:31-42
  • Take every opportunity life gives you to reach out to others, knowing that God sees and will reward you.
  • But don't focus only on the reward. Let your good deeds not be selfish, nor as a form of investment before God. Help out of love and empathy, for the glory of God and the blessing of others.
  • To be a servant of humanity is to be a servant of Christ. Be aware of the needs around you.

Pray:

Lord, my God, great and faithful is your Love! You are the solution to the needs of this world, which is so lacking in you. Use me and help me to help those who need it most. May my eyes be attentive, my hands be open and my heart be ready to love and serve others, just as I receive your great love! In the name of Christ, I pray and ask you for these things. Amen!

Day Before Yesterday's Devotional

I have hidden your word in my heart

"I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you."

Psalm 119:11

We are prone to error from birth. Nobody teaches a child to blackmail, tantrum, disobey, or be selfish with their toys, for example. Yet they act this way from the first years of their life. Sin is this invisible evil, glued to our genes, which leads us to sin even when we don't want to.

When Jesus entered the story of our lives, he saved us from the terrible curse of sin. We were slaves to a merciless master, who conditioned us to think, feel, and act according to the greed and wickedness of our hearts. However, through Jesus Christ, the Word that became flesh (John 1:14), we can keep the Truth that sets us free in our hearts, so that we don't sin against God.

Keep the Word and Practice it!

  • Keeping the Word in your heart means being in constant contact with it. Read, study, seek to know and truly love the Holy Bible.
  • To keep the teachings of Scripture you can memorize, record, or study Bible verses and stories.
  • Memorize at least one verse a week. At the end of a year, you will see how much of the Word you have internalized.
  • Sing the Word. Try to listen to and learn songs that speak of the biblical message.
  • Try to listen to the Word preached, re-read it, meditate on it, and live out what you have learned.

Pray:

Lord, thank You for Your Word which teaches me, purifies me, and frees me from all sin. Help me to keep all that I have learned so as not to grieve You by doing what displeases You. Teach me to be more like your Son Jesus Christ in love and attitude. May I always be willing to love, read, study, and practice Your Word, every day of my life. In Jesus' name! Amen.

What is the Daily Devotional

The Daily Devotional is a special moment of your day that you dedicate to having a precious time of intimacy with God. It is very simple to establish an exciting routine of discovery and spiritual growth. You will achieve this by setting aside a moment each day to draw near to the Lord. During the Devotional, you will read a Bible verse with a meditation on the text. Then, you will meditate on the teachings and how to apply them in your life. In the end, you can pray.

How to do your Daily Devotional

Here are some tips for making the most of reading the Bible message during the Daily Devotional:

  1. Set aside a moment and choose a specific place: your devotional time will be more beneficial if you set aside the hustle and bustle and invest in a pleasant time alone with God.
  2. Read the verse or Bible passage attentively: develop a lifestyle committed to the Word of God every day and avoid distractions.
  3. Read the daily meditation: reflect and try to understand God's purpose for your life through the comments.
  4. Practical application: jot down your findings and don't forget to put into practice everything you have learned through the Bible.
  5. Share what you learned: try to share with people around what God has been teaching you in your moments of daily devotion as you go about your daily conversations and interactions.

Don't forget the importance of living a life fully committed to the Word of God!
