A daily devotional to strengthen your relationship with God.
Today's Devotional
There's something better to love...
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.
1 John 2:15
When the Bible mentions the "world", it can be referring to the physical planet where we live, to all nations, to the human race, or as in this case, to the corrupted system of things and values we find in this fallen world. In today's verse, love of the world speaks to us of interest in and attachment to everything that gives rise to pride, selfishness and other sins. The desire and admiration for the attractions of the world will oppose the love and dedication given to God and His will.
Look at the activities, ideas, feelings or hobbies in your life - have they taken the place of God in your heart? What do you devote more time, effort and money to? Remove the idols that are in your heart. Understand that it's not wrong to dream of having better things in life. The problem is when these same things become the most important thing to you. The Father's love needs to be number one in your heart, everything else will be in addition, not pole position.
Dedicate your love to the right cause:
- Pray and ask God to help you identify the areas or worldly tendencies you have been leaning toward.
- Ask for forgiveness if you know that you have loved the world more than the Lord... Always aspire to have God first in your heart.
- Take care that the simple things of everyday life don't become idols in your life: relationships, money, leisure, status, addictions, etc.
- Seek to learn from the Bible how to love God more. Set aside time every day for reading and meditation.
- There is nothing and no one in this world who deserves our love more than the Lord God.
Pray:
Beloved Father, I need you. Forgive me when I feel so drawn to the things of this evil world. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on Jesus Christ and to love the things that matter in this life. May the Father's love remain in me and may I love Him above all things. In Jesus' name, Amen!
Yesterday's Devotional
The poor can't repay you, but God will!
"35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me."
- Matthew 25:35-36
Caring for the needy is a direct expression of love for the Lord. This biblical passage helps us to understand that when we help people who are excluded and in need, we are doing it for God himself. Like any human being, the needy have a dignity that comes from the heavenly Father.
Christ identifies with the most vulnerable. And we can all serve Christ better when we do this for our brothers and sisters. Practical beneficence, sincere charity and noble love for the most needy are clear evidence of devotion, love and service to the Lord. Therefore, we need to love them and help them, as if we were taking care of the Lord himself.
Help those in need!
- Pray and ask God for a kind and willing heart.
- Help according to your means, with liberality and wisdom. With God, little becomes much. Read on: Matthew 25:31-42
- Take every opportunity life gives you to reach out to others, knowing that God sees and will reward you.
- But don't focus only on the reward. Let your good deeds not be selfish, nor as a form of investment before God. Help out of love and empathy, for the glory of God and the blessing of others.
- To be a servant of humanity is to be a servant of Christ. Be aware of the needs around you.
Pray:
Lord, my God, great and faithful is your Love! You are the solution to the needs of this world, which is so lacking in you. Use me and help me to help those who need it most. May my eyes be attentive, my hands be open and my heart be ready to love and serve others, just as I receive your great love! In the name of Christ, I pray and ask you for these things. Amen!
Day Before Yesterday's Devotional
Believe that God Does the Impossible
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.
- Mark 10:27
This passage immediately follows the famous interaction between Jesus and the rich young man, a boy who wanted to know how to inherit eternal life. After Jesus demanded things of the boy that challenged his heart, the boy went away saddened, wanting the solution to be easier.
If he had stayed a little longer, he would have heard these words and left with some hope. Neither he nor we have earned our salvation, God has! Yes, The Lord has opened the way of salvation between Himself and us.
If God has done this, the impossible and unimaginable, imagine him tackling your daily problems! Nothing is impossible for the Lord, he just decides where and when he will work his miracles.
Seek the impossible
- Knock and the door will be opened, ask and it will be given to you. Pray for what you need most!
- Thank the Lord for everything he has already done in your life.
- Realise that your faith can move mountains, just believe!
Pray:
Lord God, I thank you for opening the way between us, only you can do the impossible. Today I ask you to work in my life, I need your blessings and your help, come and meet me, Father! I ask this in the name of Jesus, amen!
