Today's Devotional

Even through tears, plant the seed!

"Those who sow with tears
will reap with songs of joy.
6 Those who go out weeping,
carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy,
carrying sheaves with them."
Psalm 126:5-6

The "law of sowing" or the planting rule is a concept that is covered a lot throughout the Bible. Jesus taught several parables about the sower, types of soil and seeds (like the mustard seed, for example). Paul also said (in Galatians 6:7) that "A man reaps what he sows.". From these and other references, we can see that, in all areas of life, we reap what we sow.

Today's psalm tells us about a different aspect of planting. It's the only place in the Bible where a different kind of harvest is mentioned to the one of planting. The law of sowing here is wrapped up in the grace and mercy of the Lord who sustains all things! God grants those who sow with tears (humility, trust and contrition) to reap their sheaves full of joy (happiness, contentment and satisfaction)! Entrust your seed to Jesus who can transform a small seed into many sheaves. He can also turn your weeping into joy!

Even with tears and difficulties, sow your seed:

  • Planting is related to trust. Give your plans to the Lord and trust that He will do everything.
  • Pray to God constantly, and ask Him to sustain and direct you in all your life's purposes.
  • God gives birth and growth, but you have to plant! Work hard and be cheerful!
  • After sowing with faith, pray and wait patiently on the Lord.
  • Ask God for guidance so that you will always bear good fruit, through the action of His Spirit in your life.
  • The Word of God is the Good Seed. Share the Gospel with others around you.

Pray:

Lord, help me to plant seeds with faith and hope in you. May I trust that You sustain all things and that You sustain my life, my family, and all my dreams. Even when I'm weary, tired or beaten down by the wear and tear of life or the strain of work, may I continue to plant good seeds. May these seeds produce good fruit that will remain, for the blessing of many and your glory, in Jesus' name! Amen.

Yesterday's Devotional

He does infinitely more!

"Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen."
Ephesians 3:20-21

Even if we think of something big for our lives, God has an even bigger plan! Even according to His Word, what we ask for is still little compared to what He has already prepared for us. So don't worry about what you want to receive, because God already knows what we want and has prepared something greater than what we dream of.

Now, to have access to what God has prepared for us, we need to obey and submit to Him. When we put His Kingdom first, he blesses us in every area of our lives.

He already knows what we need and dream of, so don't worry about how to achieve your dreams, think first about how to serve God in the best way and all the other things will be supplied by Him.

Being surprised by God

  • Change your focus, put your expectations on God and not on earthly things. That way, we are focusing on what really matters, and when we least expect it, we are surprised by Him.
  • Allow God to be part of your dreams and plans. He wants to be with you at every moment of your life.

Pray:

Lord God, I know that my plans are small compared to what you have prepared for me. I want to experience Your blessings, I want to serve You and focus on expanding Your Kingdom. For I know that all other things will be provided for by You. In Jesus' name, amen!

Day Before Yesterday's Devotional

God is the strength of your heart!

"My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever."

Psalm 73:26

By accepting our limitations, we recognize everything God has done for us. When we understand that everything comes from the Lord, we realize how much he cares.

Recognizing our weakness is not an excuse for sinning, but a reason to pursue God even more. When we don't recognize God's power, we have this false impression that we conquer all things with the strength of our two arms, when everything we receive is through the Father's grace.

God's grace gave the inheritance of Salvation and no amount of effort could repay the price paid on the cross. The strength of our arm is limited, but the strength that comes from God propels us to accomplish great things!

With God, we do more!

  • Recognize your limitations, and respect yourself. Understand that everything good comes from God.

  • Seek strength in the Word of God. It is effective in cooling our souls and invigorating our strength.

  • Don't feel weak, your strength comes from God. Seek the source, pray.

Pray:

Lord, you are my strength. When I feel weak, your Word invigorates me. I am grateful to You, because I know that Your hand has sustained me. Thank you Father, amen!
